East Point Academy and Nephron Pharmaceuticals Partner for COVID Testing

West Columbia, SC– With a laser focus on providing students and staff the safest environment possible during the ongoing pandemic, public charter school East Point Academy signed a COVID testing partnership with Nephron Pharmaceuticals. The agreement allows any current East Point Academy staff member or student access to a very reliable COVID-19 test with a normal response time of about 24-hours. In an effort to make this opportunity affordable for all families, East Point Academy will help cover a portion of the testing costs for those on Free and Reduced lunch.

Access to reliable, affordable testing is paramount in keeping schools open for face-to-face instruction. “Returning to normal starts with rapid and reliable testing, and that is exactly what this exciting new partnership offers the East Point family,” said Nephron CEO Lou Kennedy. “We are excited to get to work with East Point teachers, students, and families to make sure their school year is safe and healthy.”

Public health professional and East Point Academy parent Maudra Brown, CEO of  MRB Public Health, worked closely with Head of School, Mark Bounds to secure the partnership. “Public health has never been more essential. The Nephron testing partnership provides reliable and affordable testing, directly to and for our students, families and school community.”

East Point Academy launched a Synchronous Learning Model for the 2020/2021 school year. Students either attend school five days a week for face-to-face instruction or log into the live streamed lessons from home. Students in the classroom and at home learn from the same teacher at the same time, ensuring all students stay on track. This partnership is considered a vital piece in keeping students progressing academically. Speaking of the agreement, Bounds remarked, “We are excited about this partnership and know that it will help our students, teachers, staff and families stay safe and healthy. We are so grateful to Ms. Kennedy and the Nephron team for their willingness to help us.”
