JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Custodian (Housekeeping)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under regular supervision, performs a variety of basic custodial and grounds-keeping tasks in order to provide a clean and safe environment for students and school personnel. This is a 230-day position. Reports to the Head of School or designee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Inspect school on a regular basis to ensure a safe and desirable condition for learning
• Performs a variety of basic custodial, maintenance and grounds keeping functions, following established regulations and standards for cleanliness and safety. Duties may include, but are not limited to, cleaning restrooms, hallways, classrooms, offices, cafeteria and other areas of the school building; removing trash; sanitizing surfaces; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and buffing floors; cleaning windows and walls; moving furniture; dusting; restocking soap and paper towel/tissue dispensers; and removing trash from grounds.
• Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparation for meetings, classroom activities, and events
• May be required to respond to emergency calls or secure building
• Operates a variety of equipment which may include a floor buffer, carpet cleaner, vacuum, sweeper, wet vac, hand and power tools, cleaning equipment and tools, leaf blower, etc
• Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals, such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, school staff, students, etc
• Attends in-service training (e.g., instruction on blood-borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) for the purpose of receiving information on new and/or improved procedures
• Performs light maintenance duties, including changing light fixtures, moving furniture, performing minor repairs to equipment, etc
• Lifts up to 30 pounds unassisted and/or 75 pounds assisted, multiple times per day for the purpose of lifting equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks.
• Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events
• Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records
• Unlocks /secures building and rooms
• Ensure that safety practices are followed
• Performs related duties as required including but not limited to; cleaning and locking up for afterschool events, hallway and classroom floor maintenance.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
Requires a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of six months experience in custodial, building maintenance or general labor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Knowledge

Requirements
• Closed-toe and closed-back shoes that provide support and safety to staff members. Shoes should also provide slip resistant bottom to reduce risk of fall and/or injury. Tennis shoes or boots are recommended.
• Clothing that allows custodian to move and bend as necessary to complete job.

Lead Guidance Counselor- Full Time

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under regular supervision, performs school counseling work diversified in nature, with the goal of increasing the academic, social, emotional and environmental strengths of each student; assists in building community capacity to participate in academic and personal change that impacts students’ growth and academic status; and performs related professional and administrative duties as required. This is a 200-day position. Reports to the Head of School.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Identifies students for participation in the school-approved safe school program in cooperation with teachers, administration, guidance counselors, social workers
• Establishes and maintains confidential student case files
• Attends faculty and staff meetings for program planning and coordination
• Attends meetings with staff and service providers to discuss individual student education plans and progress
• Prepares and implements school-approved safe school curriculum lessons
• Provides individual and group counseling for students; consults with parents; prepares and maintains progress notes
• Observes students in the classroom and during recess / lunch time as requested; makes recommendations as appropriate to help teachers assist students in improving academic and behavioral performance
• Conducts telephone conferences with parents to discuss student progress and problems; assists in presenting parent workshops as required
• Provides professional support and assistance to teachers
• Works with other staff in the preparation of student / program progress reports
• Informs parents of updates in the school program
• Prepares and/or processes progress reports, case notes, calendars, monthly reports, memos, correspondence, etc.
• Attends training, conferences, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills
• Schedules and attends 504 meetings and prepares 504 reports.

Possession of Licensed Professional Counselor designation is desirable. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under regular supervision, assists students in learning basic academic, social and developmental skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. This is a 190-day position. Reports to the Head of School and/or designee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods to develop a program of continuous progress consistent with East Point Academy goals and objectives to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of pupils
• Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc to transforms lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
• Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports as required
• Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program
• Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
• Assists in the selection and requisitions books and instructional aids and maintains required inventory records

• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students

Must have prior exposure to Mandarin language immersion and/or teaching children in Mandarin, and must possess ability to teach and communicate at an age-appropriate level for grade school children. Exposure gained through volunteer work and/or as part of higher education curriculum is acceptable. Must be authorized to teach for a Charter school in the state of SC.

Science Teacher- Middle School (2020-2021)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under regular supervision, assists students in learning basic academic, social and developmental skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. This is a 190-day position. Reports to the Head of School and/or designee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Collaborates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods to develop a program of continuous progress consistent with East Point Academy goals and objectives to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of pupils
• Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc to transforms lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
• Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports as required
• Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program
• Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
• Assists in the selection and requisitions books and instructional aids and maintains required inventory records
• Administers standardized tests in accordance with state testing program
• Keeps abreast of changes in school policies and students’ needs and interests
• Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
• Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s), substitutes and/or volunteers and evaluates their performance as required
• Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and to properly care for all property, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Provides for his/her own professional growth through an on-going program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning
• Participates in school staff development programs as assigned by the Head of School
• Attends staff meetings, serves on staff committees as requested, and accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular or other activities as assigned by the Head of School

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
Education and experience as required by state certification authorities.

Bachelor’s degree in education, related or other field appropriate for a Charter school teacher in SC. Must have native-level proficiency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese, and possess appreciation and understanding of Chinese culture and history. Must have prior exposure to Mandarin language immersion and/or teaching children in Mandarin, and must possess ability to teach and communicate at an age-appropriate level for grade school children. Exposure gained through volunteer work and/or as part of higher education curriculum is acceptable. Must be authorized to teach for a Charter school in the state of SC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Knowledge
• Knowledge of the methods, policies, procedures and activities of East Point Academy which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position
• Knowledge of the standards, regulations, and laws relating to educational activities
• Knowledge of the records, forms and reports which must be prepared and maintained
• Knowledge of the materials and information which must be prepared for classroom instructional activities
• Knowledge in the methods for developing lesson plans and materials, and classroom activities which stimulate learning

Skills/Effort
• Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice
• Ability to supervise students and maintain order in various classroom and instructional activities and situations
