East Point Academy: A Public Charter School
South Carolina’s First Chinese Immersion Elementary School
Partnered with strong support from USC's Confucius Institute
East Point Academy is a public school that is part of the state's public school system but is classified as a charter school because it is allowed to set critical achievement standards at or above existing public schools. East Point Academy is a small learning community.
In 2011, we started with approximately 120 students in grades 4 year-old pre-school*, Kindergarten**, First, and Second Grades. One grade level will be added each year. Personalized learning through small classes, bilingual language instruction in English and Chinese by certified teachers, civic engagement, cultural and social awareness activities, and parental involvement will give students the personal attention and extra help they need to succeed in the classroom and in society. All students will benefit from a rigorous, innovative, and learner-centered curriculum, including inquiry-based instruction to acquire, organize, and communicate information and to solve problems.
The mission of East Point Academy is to prepare students for academic and personal success through proficiency in English and Mandarin Chinese, math, science and social studies while learning in an atmosphere that promotes cultural sharing and understanding.
China is one of the fastest growing cultural and economic influences in the world. East Point Academy is
the first South Carolina Chinese Immersion Elementary School and provides a gateway to the East.
It is public and is open for all in grades 5K - 4th grade!
